- Dvorak, Tchaikovsky, and Folk Music
Students will identify and describe the use of folk-song material in the themes of two orchestral works featured in the New York Philarmonic: Live from Lincoln Center telecast.
- Symphony No. 2 in C Minor, by Peter Tchaikovsky
Students will improvise a melodic idea and use it to arrange a short composition, identify a melodic motive and describe its use in a composition, determine the order of movements in a symphony by matching, descriptions with musical qualities of each movement, identify a given symphony by composer and title.
- Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in A Minor, by Antonin Dvorak
Students will describe large-scale design elements of a concerto and identify a specific work by composer and title.
